Sólo se puede acceder por una carretera destapada y pantanosa que empieza en el barrio Santo Domingo Savio, ubicado en los extremos de Medellín. La vereda, que se formó fortuitamente, no tiene tierras legalizadas, el 70 % de su población es desplazada y es considerado el segundo asentamiento más grande de Colombia, luego de Altos de Cazucá, en Soacha.

Por ese contexto fue elegido Granizal como el lugar perfecto donde 16 estudiantes de medicina de las universidades de Harvard (EE.UU.) y de Antioquia (Colombia) trabajaron durante tres semanas en los retos de la salud pública que más aquejan a la población.

Así, bajo la sombrilla del programa “Colombia, posconflicto y salud pública”, liderado por la organización norteamericana Open Hands, los estudiantes estuvieron en la población desde el 5 de enero hasta ayer, cuando compartieron su experiencia y el impacto que podría tener un nuevo paradigma de salud en la paz de este lugar. Sobre todo en la recuperación de una población víctima del conflicto armado colombiano. (read more...)

"Recommendation services have changed the way we find every other type of art. Music, movies, books, fashion, good food. They've yet to impact the way we find visual art for our walls," said Tara Reed, her voice rising authoritatively as she addressed a panel of expectant investors, their eyes following her every move. "At Kollecto, we're building the first recommendation service to do just that." As the CEO of a rising startup, investment pitches like this are a common occurrence for Reed and other entrepreneurs. Oasis500, a leading seed stage investment and business accelerator, and the first of its kind in Jordan and the MENA region partnered recently with Open Hands initiative to support young women entrepreneurs, through a one week fellowship program in Amman with the participation of 20 women entrepreneurs from the USA and Jordan. Customers are matched with an art advisor who helps them determine their art preferences. The advisor shares  links to art works for feedback until the customer finds something they love within their price range. Customers can pay for artwork in manageable installments.
